Merged French Fishtail Braid
What You Will Need:
comb
small elastic band
brush
Lets Get Started!
- Brush or comb out the entire hair so that there are no tangles
- Using the comb, create a deep side part on the side of your choice
- Make a triangular section at the front of the head right at the part and divide that into three sections
- Begin to french braid down the side of the head. To do this you first cross the left strand over the middle strand, then cross the right strand over the middle strand. Then pick up some hair right near the braid and incorporate it into the left strand and cross that over the middle. Do the same on the right. Keep french braiding until you reach the bottom hairline on the neck.
- Make sure to incorporate hair from the other side of the head. To do this wait until you are at least down to the ear to prevent the hair from going over the top when incorporating it into the braid. Sweep the sections from the other side of the head across the back and into the braid.
- Once you reach the neckline, we will begin to fishtail braid. To do this we need to take the three sections we have and separate them into only two. I usually have a fairly large section still left from the nape of the neck that was not incorporated into the french braid. Take two of the three sections and combine them and with the other section combine it with the section left out at the nape of the neck to have two sections.
- Now for the fishtail braid. Fishtail braid down the length of the hair, stopping about four inches from the ends of the hair. To fishtail braid, take a small section from the far side of the right strand and cross it over the right strand and combine it with the left strand. Then, take a small strand from the far side of the left strand and cross it over the left strand and combine it with the right strand. Continue these steps.
- The larger the sections you take while braiding the chunkier the fishtail will look. I took fairly small pieces and it took a little while, but the style is worth it in the end if that is the look you are going for.
- Secure the end of the braid with an elastic
- Now to make the braid messier go back in starting at the top and pull apart the links of the braid. This makes the french braid stand out better as well. Pull out some strands to frame the face. When pulling apart the fishtail, I do not recommend pulling at each individual link in the braid as that will make it easier to fall apart. I just grab at each side of the braid and gently tug apart just to loosen it a little
