How I Style My Naturally Curly Hair

First, a little bit about my hair.  I have a somewhat in between type of curly hair.  Some parts seem more 2C and others more 3A.  I have very thick hair, with a somewhat straighter under layer.  Most 2C hair is resistant to styling, but mine styles really easily. My hair is extremely frizzy.  This process I've been using to style my hair for a couple years now.  It works really well for me, and if you have similar hair try it out and it might work really well for you too!

Shower

This entire process starts in the shower. I do not wash my hair every day.  I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week and the other times I just use conditioner in the shower.  I use a Conair wide-tooth comb in the shower while the conditioner is sitting on my hair.  When I rinse, I don't rinse all of the conditioner out.  Also, rinsing with cold water helps to prevent frizz.  I gently squeeze the water out of my hair when I get out, then I immediately use a towel to scrunch my hair.  This is super important.

Product

For product, I use the Marc Anthony Curl Enhancing Styling Foam.  A lot of people don't like mousse because it can make your hair crunchy and hard. This product does not do that.  With that being said, if you put too much product in, all styling gels and mousse's will do that.  I use two golf ball size pumps, one at a time.  Then, I flip my head upside down and scrunch the product into my hair.  I scrunch my hair again with a towel to get rid of any excess moisture.

Diffusing

Some days I will just let my hair dry naturally from here.  When I have more time I like to use a hair dryer to diffuse my hair.  This helps to define the curls and give them more volume.  Try not to touch your hair while using the diffuser to prevent frizz.  I flip my head upside down while I do this so my roots get more volume.  I set my dryer to low and warm, not hot.  This also helps with frizz.  This usually takes about 15 minutes until my hair is almost entirely dry.

Oil

I use any kind of moroccan argan oil in my hair after diffusing.  I use a dime size amount and rub in in my hands and smooth it over my hair while scrunching my hair.

Curling  (optional)

This is entirely optional, but sometimes I like to use my Conair Infinity curling wand to touch up to top layer of my curls.  I do not curl my entire head, I just touch up some curls on the top messily so it blends in.  I leave the ends somewhat straight to help them look natural.  There's no rule about how I do this.  I just do it until I like how it looks.

All Done

If you try this out let me know how it works for you!

Until next time,
Sam
